Olive trees are native to the Mediterranean region. They are known for their pointed leaves and elegant, airy growth habit. Their foliage is subtle in texture and size, so they don't take up too much space. Olive trees grow slowly, adding only a few inches in height each year, making them a great choice for smaller living spaces.
Lighting: Place in a south-facing window to receive 6-8 hours of bright sunlight daily. Not enough light will cause the plant to stretch and drop leaves.
Watering: Water when the top 3cm of soil dries out. Overwatering can lead to root rot. Stick your finger into the soil to check its moisture level, or use our moisture meter to remove the guesswork.
Potting Mix: Use a well-draining potting mix like our Fafard potting soil when repotting
Temperature: Keep the environment consistently warm, within the range of 15-24°C and avoid drafts from windows/vents
Humidity: Keep humidity levels moderate to high, using a humidifier or placing the plant on a tray filled with water and pebbles to help supplement humidity.
Fertilization: Feed with a balanced liquid fertilizer every 4-6 weeks during the spring and summer growing season. Reduce to every 8 weeks in fall and winter.
