The orange tree is a popular citrus variety known for its sweet, juicy fruit and glossy, dark green leaves. Native to subtropical and tropical regions, orange trees are valued for both their fruit and their ornamental appeal. They produce fragrant white blossoms that add to their beauty and can fruit year-round under ideal conditions. Oranges are a versatile fruit used fresh, juiced, or in culinary creations such as marmalades, desserts, and savory dishes.
Lighting: Place in a south-facing window with 6-8 hours of bright sunlight daily. Insufficient light will result in poor growth and reduced fruit production. Rotate the plant regularly to promote even growth.
Watering: Water when the top 3cm of soil feels dry to the touch. Overwatering can cause root rot, so ensure the pot drains well. Use our moisture meter for added accuracy.
Potting Mix: Use a well-draining citrus-specific potting mix like our Fafard potting soil when repotting.
Temperature: Maintain a warm environment of 18-30°C, avoiding drafts or sudden temperature changes.
Humidity: Moderate to high humidity is preferred. Increase humidity with a humidifier or a pebble tray filled with water.
Fertilization: Feed with a balanced citrus fertilizer every 4-6 weeks during the growing season. Reduce feeding frequency in fall and winter.
All citrus trees are generally toxic to both cats and dogs.
