One of the most interesting features of Calathea plants is their interactive behaviour. Their leaves rhythmically open and close in response to daylight changes, adding a dynamic and lively element to your home or office environment.

Calathea lancifolia, commonly known as the Rattlesnake Plant, is a popular species with distinctive lance-shaped, dark green leaves with wavy edges and purplish undersides. Its striking foliage features intricate patterns resembling the skin of a rattlesnake, hence its common name.

Lighting: Place in bright, indirect light, shielded from direct sunlight to prevent leaf damage.

Watering: Water moderately, allowing the top inch of soil to dry out between waterings to prevent root rot. You can stick your finger into the soil to check its moisture level or use our moisture meter to take the guesswork out.

Soil: Use a well-draining potting mix like our Fafard potting soil when repotting.

Temperature & Humidity: Maintain a warm, humid environment with temperatures between 18°C to 27°C and humidity levels around 50% to 70% to mimic its native tropical habitat.

Fertilization: Feed with a balanced, diluted liquid fertilizer monthly during the spring and summer growing season. Reduce to 8 weeks in fall and winter.
