The variegated kumquat is a stunning ornamental citrus tree prized for its striped, cream-and-green leaves and variegated fruit. The fruit’s rind is often striped with shades of green and yellow, eventually ripening to a vibrant orange. The sweet-tart flavour and unique appearance make it a conversation starter for any indoor or patio garden. Perfect for snacking or using in preserves, this kumquat is as functional as it is beautiful.
Lighting: Position in a south-facing window with 6-8 hours of bright sunlight daily. Rotate the plant periodically to ensure even growth.
Watering: Water when the top 3cm of soil feels dry. Avoid waterlogging, and use a moisture meter to check the soil’s hydration levels.
Potting Mix: Opt for a well-draining potting mix, such as our Fafard potting soil, to support healthy growth.
Temperature: Keep in a warm environment of 18-30°C, avoiding sudden drafts or temperature changes.
Humidity: Moderate to high humidity is ideal. Enhance humidity with a humidifier or a pebble tray filled with water.
Fertilization: Use a balanced citrus fertilizer every 4-6 weeks during the growing season. Cut back to every 8 weeks in cooler months.
All citrus trees are generally toxic to both cats and dogs.
