The Meiwa kumquat is a sweeter variety of kumquat known for its round shape and balanced flavour, combining sweet edible skin with mildly tangy flesh. This variety is often referred to as the "sweet kumquat," making it perfect for snacking straight off the tree. Meiwa kumquat trees are compact and ornamental, featuring glossy green leaves, fragrant white blossoms, and small golden-orange fruits.
Lighting: Place in a south-facing window with 6-8 hours of bright, direct sunlight daily. Rotate regularly for even growth.
Watering: Allow the top 3cm of soil to dry out between waterings. Use a moisture meter to avoid overwatering, which can harm the roots.
Potting Mix: Use a well-draining potting mix like our Fafard potting soil for ideal results.
Temperature: Keep the environment consistently warm, between 18-30°C, and avoid drafts or temperature fluctuations.
Humidity: Moderate to high humidity is preferred. Increase levels using a humidifier or a pebble tray with water.
Fertilization: Apply a balanced citrus fertilizer every 4-6 weeks during spring and summer. Reduce to every 8 weeks in fall and winter.
All citrus trees are generally toxic to both cats and dogs.
